Bond University Institute of Health and Sport

A $50 million expansion to Bond University's Robina Campus delivered through Early Contractor Involvement, the project produced an 11,500m² five-storey facility built around a central atrium — housing specialist teaching and flexible learning spaces across occupational therapy, exercise and sports science, physiotherapy, and nutrition and dietetics. Key technical challenges included the complex installation of a raking curved facade and a new bridge interface connecting the expanded building to the existing campus.

Project Overview

The Project

The Bond University Institute of Health and Sport expansion is a landmark addition to Bond University's Robina Campus — a new five-storey, 11,500m² building developed through Early Contractor Involvement to expand and enhance the existing Institute of Health Science precinct.

The project was driven by Bond University's commitment to delivering world-class health and sport education facilities — purpose-built spaces that reflect the breadth and specialisation of the disciplines taught within the Institute, from occupational therapy and physiotherapy to exercise science, nutrition, and dietetics.

What was delivered

The building is organised around a central atrium that draws natural light through the full height of the structure and creates a connected, collaborative heart for the facility. Flexible learning areas sit alongside formal specialised teaching spaces — each designed to the specific requirements of the disciplines they serve.

The project was procured through an Early Contractor Involvement process, with the delivery contractor working collaboratively with Bond University through design development before transitioning into construction. That early engagement was central to resolving the building's most complex technical challenges — particularly the installation of a raking curved facade on the main building and the design and construction of a new bridge interface connecting the expanded facility to the existing campus buildings.

The project was awarded the 2024 Master Builders Queensland Gold Coast Award for Education Facilities over $10 million.

The outcome

The completed building delivers a significant uplift in teaching and learning capacity for the Bond Institute of Health and Sport — providing students and staff with facilities that match the ambition of the programs delivered within them. The project added meaningfully to Bond University's long-term infrastructure at Robina and strengthened the campus as a destination for health and sport education in southeast Queensland.

Our role

Delivered under the leadership of Brad Eathorne as State Manager for the delivery contractor, with responsibility for the Queensland construction operations that brought this award-winning project to completion.
