Pimpama Rail Station

The first new station on the South East Queensland rail network in nearly a decade, Pimpama Railway Station opened in October 2025 as part of the Queensland Government's $5.4 billion Cross River Rail programme. Delivered under an Early Contractor Involvement Design and Construct contract with the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority, the infill station on the Gold Coast Line serves one of Australia's fastest-growing communities — providing 380 car parks, a pedestrian overpass, secure bike storage, and full accessibility co-designed with disability sector representatives.

Project Overview

The Project

Pimpama Railway Station is the first new addition to the South East Queensland rail network in nearly a decade — an infill station on the Gold Coast Line serving one of Australia's fastest-growing communities, delivered as part of the Queensland Government's $5.4 billion Cross River Rail programme.

Provisions for a station at Pimpama had existed since the Gold Coast Line's original construction in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but population levels at the time didn't justify the investment. By 2017, with Pimpama's growth placing significant pressure on nearby Ormeau and Coomera stations, the Queensland Government committed to building three new infill stations on the Gold Coast Line — Pimpama, Hope Island, and Merrimac.

The station officially opened on 20 October 2025.

What was delivered

The completed station delivers 380 car parks, a pedestrian overpass with lifts, secure bike enclosures, and CCTV throughout. It was co-designed with disability sector representatives from the outset — ensuring the facility served the full community from day one rather than retrofitting accessibility as an afterthought.

Local bus routes were realigned to integrate with the new station, improving access and streamlining connections for commuters travelling between the Gold Coast and Brisbane.

The outcome

The station opened on schedule, delivering a significant uplift in connectivity for one of Queensland's fastest-growing corridors and relieving pressure on the surrounding network. It demonstrated what is achievable when a new market entrant brings the right capability, the right leadership, and the right approach to a complex rail infrastructure programme.

Our role

Brad Eathorne served as State Manager for the delivery contractor, leading the organisation's entry into the rail infrastructure market under an Early Contractor Involvement Design and Construct contract with the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority. His involvement spanned the design phase and initial early possession works — establishing the programme foundations and leading the contractor's engagement with the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority through the critical early stages of the project.
